Britax Frontier Booster Car Seat Reviews

Britax Frontier Booster Car Seat

(Detailed photos and more information is coming to this page soon – check back in a week, thanks!)

Having a new baby is a thrill that many parents start planning for before the little bundle of joy has even made its appearance.  One of the first concerns is finding the perfect car seat that can be used to carry their child in, the most precious of thing of their lives.  If you have started looking for the perfect car seat, then you can understand my frustration when I found so many different car seats to choose from and had no idea what I was looking for.  Each website had differing views on what the seat offered and even parents offered contradictory information within the same website.  This did not help my search at all.

Finally, after months of frustration and when I was starting to run out of time, I decided to make a list of all of the major car seat manufacturers and their different models of car seats.  I put this list into a spreadsheet so I could keep all of the features in order and for easy referencing.  All of this work allowed me to make a more informed decision on what was right for my lifestyle and which car seat offered the best safety rating for me.  Others may have different needs and that is where you come in and how I can make this easier on you.  I am offering you the benefit of my research without having to go through all this trouble on your own.  There is something comforting in knowing that you are not alone and that there are many others who are in the same position.

Safety Features

The safety of any car seat is always the first issue that many parents want addressed.  I know this is my first concern when purchasing anything for my children.  This car seat offers side impact protection which is important when there are two children in seats in the car and they are right next to the door.  It also anchors to the points in the seat that offer even more stability and reduces the risk of head injuries.  It can be used as either a front or rear facing seat and can hold new babies up to older children.  Just remember that babies need to be back facing for the most safety.  Young children need to be facing forward and can use this car seat until they reach a weight of one hundred pounds in just the booster position.   That makes it not only safe, but also very versatile as it can grow with your child from an infant until they are old enough to sit in the actual car’s seat on their own.

Strap Adjustment

The straps adjust from the back of the seat and not the front as they do in many other seats.  It is important for the parents to actually read the manual before they actually make any attempts at the straps or any installation.  This can save a lot of time because the manual is very well written and offers the step by step instructions for adjusting everything for each position that the seat is to be placed in.  There are also some issues with the strap twisting but again, by reading the manual, you can see how to keep this from happening easily.  This model does have a standing recall because of the straps, when they are not pulled out evenly, they may come loose.  Before this becomes an issue, you can order a piece that keeps this from happening from the manufacturer.  It does not seem to be that big of deal and is not taking away from the safety of the seat in any way.

Installation

As mentioned above, read the instructions fully before attempting to install in any position.  You can practice with all the different positions and it should only take five minutes to figure out how easy it is to install in each one.  This way you are prepared in case you need to use the car seat on a child that is a different size than yours.  Because it is so easy to install and adjust, it can be converted easily and put back again just as easily.  It has a one latch installation system that can be tricky but does offer a solid connection which keeps the seat in place and does not have a lot of give to it.  It can be easily moved from one vehicle to another without a great deal of time being taken up.  Basically, you do not have to schedule time to switch this car seat to different vehicles.

Comfort

When it comes to comfort, this car seat offer a great deal of it for the majority of parents that offered reviews of the product.  One issue is one of the safety features.  This is the headrest that protects their heads but does not offer the peripheral vision that allows the older children to see out the side window.  This is a small concession in the event that there was an accident and that feature protected the child.  There are two cup holders which are great because one can hold a bottle or a sippy cup and the other can hold a small bowl of cheerios or other snacks on those longer drives.  Because this seat grows with the child, it is always comfortable.  It is just up to parents to know when it is time to convert it to the next size.  This can most easily be done by just using the weight that are taken during doctor’s visits or by keeping an eye on how tall they are growing.

What Do Real People Think?

The parents that took the time to review this car seat all felt that it has some good points and that there are a couple of minor issues that do not take away from the overall quality of it.  There are those who like to have their car seats match the interior motif of the vehicle and this is not offered with this model but for those who have no preference or little preference, then it is not such a big deal.  For those who did the star ratings, the majority gave it four out of five or five out of five which is really good in these hard to please times.  Most people are brutally honest in their reviews and most of them had only good things to say.  Overall, this car seat is one that is study, well built, comfortable while being a bit pricy.
