A reading specialist suggested making books accessible. Put books in every possible place where your child might get bored. We now have shoe boxes of books in every room, including all bathrooms, the car, and the kitchen. My kids (8 & 5) do a lot of their reading in the car now, and my 2 year old stays happy while waiting to pick up the big kids from school. We also listen to a lot of books on cd's. We check them out from the library, and upload them to an ipod. This is a good way to get them started on a series. Once they've listened to one and gotten interested in the characters, they can check out the next book in the series.

I have been struggling to get my 9-year-old son interested in books.

Thank you for this information.

“A house without books is like a room without windows. No man has a right to bring up his children without surrounding them with books, if he has the means to buy them.”
