Dollhouses for Girls
There are many dollhouses for girls on the market today, so choosing the right one can entail lots of research! Fortunately, I enjoy researching dollhouses (as you can plainly see!) and have compiled the 5 most important tips to keep in mind as you shop for dollhouses. Feel free to leave your feedback by commenting at the end of this article! Additionally, check out my new article: The Best Wooden Dollhouses
Here is what you need to know before you purchase a dollhouse:
1. Where will you put this dollhouse?
Some dollhouses have a flat panel at the back (like the Kidkraft Savannah dollhouse), and those are ideal for placing against a wall.
Other dollhouses have access from 360 degrees (such as the Kidkraft So Chic dollhouse), so those are ideal for placing in the center of a playroom where all four sides will be accessible.
There are a few dollhouses that spin around like a Lazy Susan (for example, the Kidkraft Cherry Hill dollhouse), and those can be set upon a table or other hard surface for easy swiveling.
2. What is the age of the recipient of this dollhouse?
There are some dollhouses that are rated for age 3 and up because they cannot take the abuse of a toddler climbing up their walls. These dollhouses (such as the Kidkraft dollhouses) are very sturdy, and will last for many years of imaginative play. However, they are not ideal for young children who would not understand that a dollhouse cannot be used as a ladder!
Other dollhouses can be used for babies and toddlers because they are made of thick plastic of furniture-quality wood.
3. What is your budget?
There are dollhouses for as cheap as $30 and as much as $300 and up. Decide upon your budget before you start browsing around at the available selection. It is easy to sort dollhouses by price (low to high, or high to low) when you search on Amazon.com.
4. Do you want to buy dollhouse furniture separately?
Some dollhouses come with furniture and others are totally unfurnished. Do you want to shop around to find furniture that fits into your dollhouse (in terms of size and decor), or do you prefer to simply buy one item — a dollhouse that includes appropriate furnishings for all of its rooms.
5. Do fashion dolls fit inside your prospective dollhouse?
Most girls already own a large selection of fashion dolls. These include Barbies, Groovy Girls, Disney Princess dolls, etc. When you are in the market for a dollhouse, check its dimensions to see if it will accommodate standard sized fashion dolls, which are about 11 or 12 inches tall.
P.S. Wondering which is my favorite? I have a hard time deciding, however, as of today, the Kidkraft Suite Elite dollhouse is my absolute favorite!
