That is really cute the guessing game. My 3 boys Blane, 10 Brandon,7 and Bryce 5 all sahre a room. Niht time is pretty good most of the time. After a long day at school( me working from home) and dinner, baths and play time, soon to put in there baseball, my boys go to thier rooms at 8, they take turns with thier tv, they keep rotating who chooses what to watch, my oldest son has his own tv room with his stuff becuase he is to the age he still like to sleep with his brothers but he needs his own space, so he gets his tv time in his own room from 8-9. Than it tv out at 9. Brandon and Bryce are usually sleeping by then. Are family has talk time at dinner, from 5-6 and activity time from 6-7. They take turns rotating bath two you the the who goes forst or last. So while one is the bath I have my time to sit and talk to each one usually about 15-20 mins. with each child to talk about how our days went. oh ya and homework time from 4-5 My five year old by the way is still at home until next school year, so we usally talk about what we are going to eat for lunch the next, either mommy cooks or we go to mcdonalds playland which he likes, I work 8-11 and than from 11-12 is project time with Bryce and than lunch from 12-1:30 and back to work from 2-4 5 days a week. And also do freelance jobs from home, which pay well and I can do for an hour or so when the kids get to bed. Also tank goodness for wonderful husbands, who help with housework. We run our house like clockwork, but very smooth. I could go on and on…. but I really do love our life. I find getting yourself and your family in a routine is great, and than wekends are just hang out and have fun time, no routine. Gee I have to fit baseball in soon. FUN FUN. Ya and my day starts at 6am and eds at 12-2. thank goodness for weekends.

I love bedtime rituals whatever they may be. But I kinda wonder if your boys aren’t missing some quite, not hurried, non-competitive alone time with each other. My 2 younger boys (3 years apart) shared a room and I always felt when the lights went out they had some great conversations about school, friends, mom and dad, older siblings, you get the idea. Sure once in a while they had trouble settleing down for the night but over all it was a positive time for them. Even my boy and girl twins when they were in jr.high and high school after bedtime (so to speak) we would hear them in each others room talking about the day and we never interupted. Peace, Carol

Hi Ellen, My oldest is also a seven-year-old boy, Shane. I also have 2 girls, Alice- 4 and Dakota- 7 months. I love this guessing idea, and will implement it with Shane. He’d rather kick a ball around than take the second to elaborate more than “fine” when I ask him how school was that day- so I think this guessing game will be a good idea for winding down during bedtime.
