8 Hobbies For Stay-At-Home Moms

We all know that being a stay at home mom is a full-time job. Between getting your kids ready for school, packing lunches, helping them out with homework cooking dinner, and getting them ready for the next day, having a hobby can seem like an impossible quest.

However, it’s very important to have time for yourself and channel your creative energy into something or possibly make a few extra dollars a month. Let’s take a look at some hobbies for stay at home moms.

Main Points

  • Everyone needs a hobby to channel their creative energy.
  • Stay at home moms can take up hobbies that they can share with their children.
  • Try to find a hobby that stimulates your mental health.
  • Some hobbies can bring you extra cash for your family.

5 Hobbies That Will Let You Use Your Creativity

Painting

You don’t have to be Picasso to pick up a painting brush and start painting something. Even if you feel like you have no talent painting can be beneficial for your mental clarity because any art form impacts brain wave patterns and emotions.

Panting can also be a family activity. I always used to finger paint with my kids when they were toddlers, yes it can get messy, but it will be a memory you will cherish forever, plus you get to keep the paintings and even give them to grandma and grandpa as gifts from your young ones.

Sewing

If you’re tired of taking your kid’s clothes to the seamstress every time they get a little tear, then maybe you should consider purchasing a sewing machine.

There are a lot of at-home sewing machines for a reasonable price. The best part is that you can teach yourself to sew Halloween costumes for your kids so you don’t have to buy overpriced ones every year.

I personally use the Brother ST371HD, and I have been satisfied with its overall performance.

Gardening

Having a tiny garden in your backyard can be so beneficial. Not only can you grow your own organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs, but it can also be educational. You can teach your kids all about healthy food and they can watch how a single seed can grow into a plant in just a few mounts.

Yoga

Admittedly, this isn’t really a hobby, but I wanted to include it here because it helped me very much. During my postpartum days, I felt very weak in my body and had no energy, and we all know how much energy you need especially in those first few months. Coffee simply wasn’t working and it made me anxious.

So I tried doing at-home yoga. After a few weeks I felt more energized, my body felt less tense and I could feel my strength coming back. I’ve been doing yoga for years now and I can’t recommend it enough. Not only is it great for your body, the mental stimuli it has on the mind are indescribable.

I go to yoga classes now, but I started my journey at home with the help of YouTube, and a channel that has helped me out is Yoga With Adrienne.

Reading

When we are kids reading is often seen as a boring school thing we have to do, but as we get older we often find ourselves wishing we had more time to read. Today you can simply download a book from an online library without ever having to leave your home. You can also download audiobooks on sites like Audible. You can even join a book club and have weekly discussions with people that share the same hobbies as you.

3 Hobbies that can make you extra money

Being a stay at home mom is a hard job that only pays with the love and appreciation you receive from your family, but that doesn’t pay the bills. If you want to take up a hobby you can do at home to make a few extra dollars, here are my recommendations.

YouTube

YouTube is a vast cyberspace that has videos on anything and everything. It does take some time to get recognition, but it is a fun activity you can do. You can make any kinds of videos you’re passionate about cooking, doing makeup, fashion, telling stories, vlogging, and so on.

Also, you can add other types of social media like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to help grow your views and thus grow your income.

Tutoring

Moms are superheroes, but each one of us Is probably the best in one particulate thing. And what better way to take advantage of that thing than to start tutoring? You can put up ads about in-person tutoring if you have the means, or you can tutor online through sites like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

You can also make a profile on sites like Preply (https://preply.com/) and set your own working hours. You can tutor in language, school subjects, or any other skills you may want to share for a profit.

Virtual assistant

Another way to earn extra income is by becoming an assistant. You can channel all the organizational skills you developed by being a mom and help a company set its goals and plan accordingly.

Maybe you are good with finances, you handle all the money at home so you can also assist a certain person or company with their own finances. Maybe you planned your own wedding and it turned out like a fairytale, you can help out a wedding planner and keep track of their work

There are many ways you can become an assistant. You can start by asking around do your friends know someone who can use some help or search for remote assistant jobs online.

Conclusion

I know that your kind well-being is your first priority as a parent, but as they say “you can’t pour from an empty cup”. Your kids feel when you’re not doing your best and are worried about you even if they don’t express it.

The best way to start taking care of yourself is to get into a hobby, something that fulfills your soul and heart and that you can do all while taking care of your family. I hope that these hobbies for stay at home moms that I mentioned help you feel inspired to start a new chapter in your day to day life.
